How we work out what a box is worth
We split each set into rarity groups and multiply how many copies of each group come in a box (the pull rates) by the average price of its cards. That sum is the expected value: what the cards in a box are worth on average.
We compare it with the box price and, since almost nobody sells everything, also with what you would get by selling: with a 5% fee and leaving out cards under $0.50. We also simulate 10,000 boxes to show what a typical box gives (the median) and how likely you are to get your money back.
Publishers don't release pull rates for almost any game: these are community estimates, each one with its range, its source and how reliable it is. If a set has no reliable rates, we don't work out its value.
